Critical Discourse
This branch is currently in process.
This Branch represents the most ambitious and critical challenge The Maya Tree Council is faced with. Given the project aim of showcasing the best creative and critical work in the university and translating it into critical discourse, the Branch holds the inherent conceptual promise of developing into a robust and evolving research-based multi- and inter-disciplinary platform.
The student-council is cognizant that, as with the Tree itself, this Branch can only come together in pieces as respective schools at the university buy-in to the vision. The Council is also cognizant that setting up each component of the Critical Discourse Branch will require extensive faculty involvement.
For this collective discursive space to come into being, respective faculty from each school will have to consolidate and shortlist the best research projects at hand; and, to then establish external blind-peer-review panels, composed of competent experts, to determine final entries for any discipline in the journal.
In the summer of 2009, the Council will work with the School of Liberal Arts to establish the literary theory and criticism, and cultural studies components of the Critical Discourse Branch. Given the high level of interest registered by the students and faculty of the Design school, the summer could possibly also see the Critical Discourse branch expanding further.
The Council respectfully invites interested faculty members to write to us with expressions of interest, comments and suggestions. Please direct your emails to:
