About Us
![]() by: The Maya Tree Council
3rd June 2009 We are a group of BNU students who declare ourselves a project Council. Collectively we are studying literature, cultural studies, theatre, film and television studies, photography, design and fine arts. With support from the School of Liberal Arts, we have envisioned, and are attempting to execute, a student-run project aimed at showcasing the best creative and critical work being generated in the university — and translating it further into critical interdisciplinary discourse. The rationale behind the project is that, particularly as we remain for the most part shut-out of the western database of peer-reviewed journals, books and archives, one key contribution would be to establish a blind-peer-reviewed journal, online and in print, that will serve to at least reinforce our academy with our own creative and critical work. At the end of the first semester of the project, we feel we have put the conceptual and virtual infrastructure for the vision in place, and are putting up The Tree in branches, strengthening them individually and collectively as we grow. Aesthetically, perhaps there exists a lovely humble cognizance among the faculty and students of BNU that this could perhaps be another “season of fragments and failures.” But since, collectively, we are all “as yet nowhere,” a measure of relief and hope should issue from also knowing that such seasons are never without their riches and significance. And as all trajectories have to begin at some ‘point on a curve,’ let this then be the point. *** Thank you for visiting our website.
